Shinn Farms

Millhouse Apartments is a high-design apartment complex in historic Belmont neighborhood. It draws inspiration from Charlotte’s mill houses, combining luxury modern interiors with a charming exterior. With 28 units, including 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom options, and a parking deck, Millhouse creatively maximized its small site by using parking stackers. The development addresses Charlotte’s housing demand with an affordable housing element and provides crosswalks and on-street parking for residents and the public. UDP provided civil engineering, landscape architecture, and construction administration services, collaborating closely with the architect and contractor to overcome site constraints. The project’s half-acre site posed challenges, but UDP incorporated accessibility as an amenity, featuring a landscaped platform ramp. The interior courtyard functions as a green roof, with tree preservation and additional planters on the parking structure.
