12.01.08 – Construction begins on Matthews
Parkway Corporate Center.
Dirt is really moving with the start of construction at the Matthews Parkway
Corporate Center. The ultimate build-out for this project will include three
buildings totaling 75,000 SF and a new public street. The first building and
public street are scheduled to open by February 2009, while the second building
is scheduled to be completed by October 2009.
11.19.08 – The Millennium at South End begins
construction.
A new era has begun in South End with the start of construction of the neighborhood’s
newest project, The Millennium. The apartment complex will include 269 units
in two buildings with a parking garage and two resident courtyards. The Millennium
is located between South Tryon Street and the light rail at Bland Street. Construction
is scheduled to be complete by Fall 2009.
10.10.08 – Charlotte’s Housing Authority selects
UDP for site design services.
Charlotte’s Housing Authority has selected UDP to provide site design services
including civil engineering and landscape architecture for their new office building.
The office is planned as a 40,000 SF LEED certified facility. The site will be
one of three urban infill sites currently under consideration and evaluation. 
07.21.08 – City council approves the Gale Property
at Northlake rezoning petition.
Charlotte’s city council recently voted to approve a petition for rezoning at
the Gale Property at Northlake. Plans for the project include up to 320 multi-family
units in nine buildings as well as up to 50,000 SF designated for office and
retail uses. The 21 acre site is located on Northlake Centre Parkway next to
the Super Target shopping center and has frontage along Dixon Creek and a future
greenway. 
07.21.08 – City council approves Highland Commons
rezoning petition.
Highland Commons received the go-ahead to move forward from the city
council with the approval of a rezoning petition. The project is
slated to include up to 112,000 SF of office and retail space centered
around a Main Street-styled drive. The pedestrian-scaled cluster
of shops and offices will serve the adjacent neighborhood’s everyday
needs and services.
